Its official now that I have developed an allergy to something in the UK. Two days after we arrived I began to swell and itch and when my tongue started getting too big for comfort the decision was taken to go to casualty. There I was purged with intravenous drugs and sent packing at 4 in the morning with a bundle of antihistamines and steroids. The treatment effected immediate relief but the symptoms seem to return each morning. The swelling seems to appear in different locations but the first reaction centered principally on my groin in which, it has to be said, it didn’t create all negative enlargements. The sore and swollen thighs and bum were definitely a downside but being able to give Buster Gonad from Viz a run for his money was a temporary consolation. Other benefits though are difficult to discern and its all a bit worrying to be honest. This is definitely time to get out medical status in France sorted out.

Bev and Pete our housesitters part today leaving our house, Tess , Romey , Amber and Rita and Reg and the girls to be looked after by Judith and Ian, (AM shift), and Dennis and Jane (PM shift). Tess is going to stay with Jane and Dennis and hopefully wont have a repeat episode of her latest drama , namely swallowing a wasp which the vet thinks stung her in the throat. Poor old Bev and Pete saw her collapse on the doorstep struggling to breath. They whipped her off to the vet for her second appearance there in as many weeks. Thankfully we can report a full recovery from her episode and she is back to normal form. Tess and I are going to make a great combination.

Work here has been alarmingly slow and the coffers have not been replenished to the extent I had hoped. This of course has given us even more time to wander around shops spending money we dont have. We have not been frivilous and all purchases are justifiable (nearly) but spending is a much more of a comfortable experience when you know that there really is something it the bank to back up that little piece of flexible plastic. Roz has a couple of weeks work lined up for September and cashing in a few premium bonds should keep us going till then. It can be a bit fraught this shoestring existence. I need to be able to adopt Roz’s knack of remaining completely oblivious to any impending financial disaster which seems to keep her happily floating around the garden without a care in the world( apart from her lunatic, deranged and now allergenic husband). Its worth every penny we havent got to see her like that.

Thats about it for this week. We head off shortly for the heavy, leaden skies of Wales where we are promised to be saturated all day for the wedding on Saturday. You have to love the weather in August dont you!
